Frequently Asked Questions & Frequently Responded Answers

Please read this entire page before you send us an email.

Q: Why?

A:  Because.

Q: Why did you name your company “Iguana Kitchen”?

A: It sounds better than “Amalgamated Zeitgeist Laboratories, FDIC”.

Q: Why do you offer both wav and aiff format but not mp3?

A: With all due respect to the Fraunhofer Society, mp3s are basically the digital version of the cassette tape. Yes, it was possible to get a great sounding cassette, and yes it is possible to get a great sounding mp3. However, we prefer to give you the highest quality for your dollar and that simply means no mp3. The decision to offer both wav and aif is simply because we think you should be able to have the choice for yourself and your clients.

Q: But MP3s can be high quality if you go to 320 kHz. Why don’t you offer that option?

A: Yes, increasing the sample rates and the bit rates can improve the sound quality of MP3s. But doing that completely negates the only real benefit of MP3s, which are smaller file sizes. At that point you might as well go with aiff or wav.

Q: What type and/or brand of microphone or other audio gear do you use?

A: We don’t have any endorsement deals with any microphone companies, or any other audio/video production companies. This allows us to pick and chose whatever product we think works best for a particular project. Because of that, we won’t reveal which brands we use. We will say, however, that for microphones we use mostly condenser microphones, dynamic microphones, and ribbon microphones. Hope that narrows it down a bit…

Q: Are you hiring – do you have a jobs posting?

A:  We do not actually have employees. We’re a partnership of a few industry professionals who realized that by combining our talents, we could make a bigger impact. Usually if we need help, we approach other industry professionals who we’ve already established professional relationships with and partner with them. Sorry for the bad news, but don’t let this get you down. There are loads of other film and audio production companies who need good talent. We suggest browsing the film and broadcast industry job posting websites.

Q: How did you get started in this and how could I get a career like yours?

A: See our About Us page for origin details (ours, not Darwin’s). As far as getting started in a career like this, go to a film school or a recording studio school.  No, we won’t recommend any, for the same reason we won’t recommend any particular products or equipment.

Q: I have some music beds, sound effects, or other weird stuff – Are you interested in selling stuff from other people?

A: We never say no to anything (unless it smells funny and looks bad). Email us using the instructions at the end of the FAQ/FRA and give us the details on what you have. We’ll contact you ASAP.

Q: My copy of Childspeak/ Death To Mike doesn’t play/ sound right/ or seems defective. What can I do?

A: We strive to ensure that everything we sell is as good as it can be – but despite that problems with the copying process can occur. If your CD or DVD is defective we’ll replace it free of charge.

Q: Why do I have to look at the entire FAQ/FRA before I can email you?

A: We are an extremely small company. By small, we mean way less than 10 total people. Possibly under 5 (we’re not entirely sure who some of these people are around here). We get lots of emails every day from around the globe concerning our products. And though we try to answer every email as quickly as possible, we’ve found a number of the questions we get are the ones above. That’s why we posted this FAQ/FRA page; to get your question answered faster.

However we also know you may have a question that’s not included among the assortment above.  Send any questions, suggestions, comments, and death threats to info@iguanakitchen.com.

Please copy and paste that address in the “To” box in your email. Our way of trying to cut down on spam.

We’ll try to reply as quickly as we can! Soon! Honest! (Except maybe the death threats).

If you want to use old fashioned phone service - try (616) 901-1599 - phone hours are 9am to 6pm EST (USA). Though if we're recording something we don't always answer.

Thanks!
